A discovery

17 Aug

Whilst cleaning out my sewing box, which was shamefully dusty and full of bits and pieces, I came across this tin…

and guess what was inside (it’s not Fine Duck Quills)…

A fine selection of crochet hooks, I assume collected by my mum as the sewing box used to belong to her. I love discovering these sorts of things and I particularly like the retro packaging.

Photo of the week

16 Aug

My first ever photo of the week (photo of the day would be far too much for me to remember!)

This gorgeous plant was a complete bargain (£1.99) and is such a beautiful colour. I have recently discovered Dahlias, there were many lovely ones planted in Monet’s garden.

Hopefully it will survive the winter!

Recent makes…

14 Aug

As I am new here, I thought it would be nice to share some of the most recent of my crafty endeavours (of the crochet variety).

These go way back to Christmas with my biggest project so far, a huge ripple blanket for my sister, made using Lucy’s pattern at Attic24. I used Stylecraft special DK yarn which is lovely and soft and comes in a wide variety of colours.

With the news of a twin pregnancy of a lovely friend, I was again inspired to make blankets. More rippling! These were two smaller blankets but made with thicker pure wool (Patons Fairytale Dreamtime DK). I decided to make one with ripples and the other with stripes, but use the same colours. Alongside these baby blankets, came the sweet little pink pig for the twins’ older sister (pattern from this lovely book).

My current project is a large blanket just for us! It is a kind of patchwork-crochet blanket made using a pattern from Dottie Angel. The only other blanket I have made for us was much smaller and we need something that will actually cover a person! It will hopefully be finished very soon, the summer holiday gives much more opportunity for making 🙂

I am making this blanket using Rowan Pure Wool Dk in five lovely colours (Port, Enamel, Dahlia, Tea Rose and Hyacinth). I plan to make a border for this blanket, something which I have not done before, using Snow.

That’s all for now x

My next project (one of many)…

13 Aug

I intend to make a small blanket or cushion cover of these squares to use up my stash of Stylecraft yarn that I have leftover from my sisters big ripple blanket which I made last Christmas.

The pattern can be found over at Mille Makes.

Paperchase love

13 Aug

I must confess my love of stationary…in particular Paperchase.

I have just spent a very happy hour putting together a photo album of our visit to Paris (a small selection of the MANY photos I have) and they look so so good in my new album.

So there, it’s out there…the first step is admitting it 🙂

Changes

12 Aug

Hello world! I wanted to start this blog to record my life and my crafty endeavours. I feel as though my life is at a turning point (after recently getting engaged and gradually approaching 30) and that those changes deserve to be chronicled, alongside a bit of talk of the crochet variety 🙂

For the moment I will leave you with some pictures from my life at the moment.
